Gnostic field

The content of the Department’s studies covers the application of agriculture and economics on farm management and trade businesses of the agricultural sector. The application sectors are connected to the foundation, organization, administration and operation of production units and product trading as well as influx of crop and animal production and the sustainable development of the countryside and the business options based on agricultural activity and agricultural area resources.

Mission

The Department is aimed at promoting the development and imparting knowledge on technological and epistemological fields related to the management of farms and business enterprises of the agricultural sector through teaching and applied research and to provide students with all the necessary tools to ensure epistemological and professional knowledge. It seeks to fulfil its mission with updating of the education offered according to the demands of an ever changing agricultural, professional, epistemological and educational area.

Study Structure

Studies in the Department last eight (8) semesters.
The first seven (7) semesters include theoretical instruction and laboratory exercises, while seminars and lectures by members of the agri-food area are scheduled and visits to exemplary farmers and traders are arranged.
During the eighth semester students undertake their internship and prepare their  thesis.

The theoretical part of the course, consist exercises which act as application on the theory in order to boost participation of students, which is a prerequisite for the achievement of their academic integration.
These exercises include tutorials, case studies, individual and group work, literature, film and slide projectors, display materials and tools, etc. Emphasis is placed upon obtaining adequate primary and specialized infrastructure, development of critical thinking and skills that contribute to the greatest possible flexibility in changing labor market conditions.

The curriculum includes courses of general infrastructure, specific infrastructure, skills and management courses, law and humanitarian courses. The workload of each course is the basis for credits ECTS. Students may choose courses in order to form clusters in order to better meet the interests and aspirations and to make all the cognitive and emotional skills.

The key disciplines include courses of general infrastructure such as economics, mathematics, crop production, zootechnics, accounting, management and business administration, computers.

 The specific infrastructure items include:

- Ski agro, with emphasis on production and marketing activities, including agricultural statistics, investment evaluation, agro rural development studies, total quality management, sustainable management of agricultural resources, methods of making, rural credit and agricultural insurance, marketing of agricultural supplies (material, fertilizers, medicines, machinery, animal feed, packaging materials), agricultural markets.

- Ski agrokoinoniologika, including farm cooperatives.

- Lessons information and communication technologies, applied in agriculture.

- Ski georgotechnika on production techniques, functions and activities and agricultural products.

The specialty items are more specific agro courses on rural development policy, administrative and financial management of farms and businesses, marketing, standardization, and market research for agricultural products, agrokoinoniologika classes, courses and classes computer applications georgotechnika.

 The subjects administration, law and humanities include courses on ethics profession, rural tourism, the forms of collective and vertical organization in agriculture, agricultural education, commercial and agricultural law, European integration.

 Courses specific infrastructure and specificity can be classified as elective courses teams with four main areas:

¨ the management of farms and businesses

¨ marketing of agricultural products and inputs

¨ rural development and providing services to farms and businesses, and

¨ IT applications in agriculture.

 The student selecting clusters of courses has the potential to acquire knowledge and cognitive skills, according to the particular talents and preferences.
